The butterfly and the red thread

Country : Japan /  Belgium

Text, performance and direction : Yuri Matsumaru

Duration : 55 mn

Synopsis

Dancer Yuri Matsumaru presents a new choreography inspired by her personal journey, exploring themes of love, relationships, and grief through a butoh (movement) performance.

In Japan, butterflies are revered as sacred creatures carrying souls, and it is believed that destined lovers are connected by an invisible red thread tied around their pinky fingers. “My dear husband passed away two years ago and has since become a being of light. If I could become a butterfly, I would travel through time and space to see him again, following this red thread,” she shares.
