Synopsis:
Molière’s timeless comedy *Tartuffe*, long celebrated and twice banned in its day, remains a sharp satire on hypocrisy that has lost none of its relevance in 360 years. In the Mossovet Theatre’s production, director Evgeny Marchelli uncovers fresh psychological layers within this classic, revealing new dimensions of its familiar characters. After her wedding, Elmire, Orgon’s youthful and lively wife, transforms their home into a place of constant festivity. Her exuberance unsettles Orgon, making him increasingly vulnerable to the manipulations of Tartuffe, the pious imposter who infiltrates the household under the guise of virtue. As confusion and tension grow, the play builds toward a single pressing question: how far will Tartuffe’s influence go, and what will become of this household ensnared by deception?
