Synopsis:
Gathered around the legacy of feminist writer Nawal El Saadawi, the actresses weave a collective identity known as Donja Hota. As Donja Hota, they contemplate a life of dissidence: embracing the possibility of stubborn idealism, preparing to fight for the cause of pleasure, strengthening underground movements, exploring the surreal nature of the tools at hand, reclaiming fragments of freedom from their physical archives, tearing apart society’s core illusions, and generating an expanding territory.
The name Donja Hota reflects that of Don Quixote, seen as both hero and madman. But rather than chasing windmills, Donja Hota embodies a life as it might be lived.
